April 5, 2009  -- Covenant Radio has released an official position on the issue of the Federal Vision.

The theological paradigm of the Federal Vision has long plagued Reformed churches ever since its inception back in 2004.  This short news release will summarize Covenant Radio's official position on the issue.

Numerous reformed denominations and their presbyteries have declared the Federal Vision to be out of accord with the accepted Standards of their denominations (namely, that of the Westminster Confession of Faith with the Shorter and Larger Catechisms).  I am in complete agreement with the findings of the ecclesiastical courts on this matter.  Although the issue is a very difficult issue for many to ascertain it is an issue that has been answered directly by the leading scholars of our Reformed denominations.  Numerous discussions and debates have been had on the internet and elsewhere over this matter.

Since the Reformed faith has always been a confessional church we must abide by the directives of our historical confessions and creeds and examine these particular doctrines in that light.  Though the possibility exists that some may find small disagreements within these confessions none of them should be enough to upset the system of doctrine found within the.  I believe the Federal Vision has moved to far away from our historical understanding of various doctrines such as the covenant and justification by faith alone.

Covenant Radio has discussed this issue in the past and with the numerous internal changes to the program various issues have been refocused to bring the program into a more historically accepted position of the Reformed faith on matters such as this as well as other matters (i.e. "eschatology).

The programs that discussed the Federal Vision will remain intact for informational purposes however please keep in mind that people often change their views on various things and statements that were made in the past may not necessarily be the opinions currently held.  We have all been forced to evaluate our positions on matters of faith and practice and we all would appreciate a charitable dealing with things we may have said in the past to see if those things are still true.  I ask that my listeners offer me that same level of grace on this matter.
